Farmingdale race to support local women

A 5K will take place at the Farmingdale High School Track in July to raise money for local groups that benefit girls and women.

The Runner's Edge Long Island Women's 5K is a female-only event where runners can show their support for organizations that enrich the lives of local girls. This year's 5K beneficiaries include the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County, Girls on the Run Long Island, and Black Girls Run! The course for the race will begin and end at Farmingdale High School. Those participating in the challenge will be given post-race snacks such as watermelon and ice cream.

Members of the Greater Long Island Running Club can compete for the Paula Wunderlich Memorial Award during the event. There will also be gift cards given to finalists that range from $100 to $500. Several businesses from the community will donate door prizes for guests to win at the race. Only those present at the event's prize drawing will be eligible to win. Medals will be handed to children who finish the program's fun run.

The women's 5K will be held on Saturday, July 8 from 8:30 am to 10:00 am. The cost to enter the event is $35, and discounts are available to those in the Greater Long Island Running Club. Participants can pick up their bibs early on Friday, July 7 at Runner's Edge. Businesses that host races like this may give Promotional Products to registrants.
