Doula association to educate Farmingdale on birthing

The Long Island Doula Association (LIDA) will be giving a presentation in February at The Nesting Place in Farmingdale.

Creating Space: Pelvic Dynamics and Fetal Positioning for an Efficient Birth is an educational program where attendees will learn the best poses to maintain during each stage of the birthing process. The class also covers what appropriate relaxation techniques to suggest to those in labor and discusses why certain methods are more effective than others. The course is useful for multiple occupations, including birth workers, midwives, nurses, and massage therapists.

LIDA is a multi-professional organization that provides positive support and education for women from conception through postpartum. The co-presidents of the group are Stephanie Gunderson and Laura Siddons. Several programs are offered by LIDA, such as their Community Support Fund and Hospital Based Doula Project. LIDA also organizes training sessions throughout the year. Health-related organizations like this can use Print shops to make portable resources for their audience.

The course from LIDA will take place on Friday, February 18th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The price to attend will be $75 for those who are non-members of LIDA. Members can pay $65 instead. People interested in supporting LIDA’s Community Wellness Fund or Black Maternity Wellness Fund can donate on the organization’s website. The group also has a scholarship fund that takes donations.
