Residents in the general areas of Farmingdale, Babylon Village, and Uniondale are being asked to help support Long Island reSound’s community initiative to raise money for Canstruction, a nationwide competition created to help fight hunger.
Canstruction is an event where teams put together creative structures made out of canned goods. The intricate designs draw thousands of visitors each year who attend the events to view the masterpieces. After the event, the canned goods are all donated to local charities to help fight hunger.
Last year, Team Long Island reSound created a structure that, when taken down and distributed, yielded approximately 1,200 meals. This year, the team is hoping to create a structure using 5,000 cans, so they are soliciting donations and holding fundraisers to help support their initiatives. This could be an opportunity for local business to step in and provide donations and help support the fundraisers by mentioning their efforts in their company Brochures and Flyers.
Long Island reSound is holding a fundraising concert this Saturday, September 24, at 7:00 pm. The event will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Babylon. Using handbells, Long Island reSound will play the music of favorites such as the Beatles and Beach Boys. 100% of all donations will go to buying canned goods for the structure at Canstruction.
The Long Island Canstruction event will be held at the RXR Plaza in Uniondale from October 28 to November 13. Admission for the event is a one-can donation.
