Roundabout work begins soon to ease traffic congestion
The state Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that it will begin work this summer for a planned roundabout in Clifton Park.
The project will take several months, with expected completion at the end of 2019. Working closely with town officials, the DOT will manage the work to ensure minimal impacts to those traveling through the intersection. The construction is not expected to close the roads at any time and, when possible, some of the work will be done at during off peak traffic times like evenings and weekends.
The DOT also communicated plans for pedestrian traffic in the new roundabout ensuring safety considerations for those traveling on foot. Plans call for four crosswalks at the roundabout, all with easy access from sidewalks. The roundabout will be large enough to have an area inside the circle with benches for seating, and even a bike rack for those wishing to take a break.
The finished project will come as a relief for many residents as the intersection has been the site of roughly 30 accidents a year in recent years. DOT officials reiterated they will do their best to keep resident informed in an attempt to lessen the concerns and frustrations during construction.
Such projects often bring confusion for motorists but agencies can work with print shops in the area to obtain signage announcing suggested detours for those wishing to avoid the area.
The roundabout work will begin on July 8 at the Fischer Ferry Road and 146/146A intersection.
