Farm Fest returns to Clifton Park next month with multiple farms and other locations involved in the popular harvest-time event.
The two-day annual festival includes a range of activities for all ages. Families can take a driving tour to visit local working farms to enjoy animals, horseriding and hayrides, apple picking, music, and country food. At the same time, visitors can learn through displays and demonstrations about the workings of a farm and the rich history of the region’s agricultural industry.
Centuries ago, Native Americans referred to the area as Canastagione or corn flats due to the abundance of corn grown along the river plain. By the 1600s, settlers established more farms and homes, creating an agricultural community.
More about farming history will also be available at other festival locations, including the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library and the Grooms Tavern, the latter of which is a restored historic complex that serves as a local educational and cultural center.
Among the farms included in this year’s festival are Riverview Orchards, Bowman Orchards, and Shepherd’s Hey Farm. Farm owners who participate in similar agritourism events often use banner printing to highlight their attractions.
The Clifton Park Farm Fest will be held on September 20 and 21. Further details will be made available on the town’s Parks and Recreation website as the dates approach.
