Hammer throw and caber toss headline Clifton Park training day

Six Scottish sports will be demonstrated in a hands-on training session in Clifton Park next month.

The 2025 Empire Throwing Club Training Day will provide participants with the opportunity to learn from accomplished throwers before trying the games themselves. The six Heavy Athletics events are stone put, weight for distance, hammer throw, sheaf toss, weight over bar, and caber toss. The event will include morning instruction and practice before the afternoon competition. Men and women aged 14 and over are welcome to participate, even with little or no experience.

Highland Games sports date back hundreds of years to a time when the competitions tested the strength and bravery of soldiers. The Empire Throwing Club began in 2022 as a way to increase local interest in Scottish Highland athletics. The first training day was held that year and it has since become an annual event.

Spectators are welcome to attend and watch the competition, but are not permitted on the throwing field. Athletes are encouraged to wear kilts, but it is not mandatory.

The training day is presented thanks to a number of participating sponsors. Businesses who sponsor special events such as this often make sure they have use professional Logo Design services for their advertising.

The Empire Throwing Club Training Day will be held Sunday, June 29 at the Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, beginning at 9:00 am.
