Clifton Park set for cancer-beating center
Work has gotten under way this month on a multi-million dollar development that will see Clifton Park step up to the plate to help tackle cancer.
An all-new $20 million center is being created in Clifton Park to replace a similar facility in the Latham area of New York.
Located behind The Crossing shopping mall, a total area of 28,000 ft space is being created by owners Columbia Development. When it is up and running in the spring of next year, it will become the biggest cancer treating facility in the New York Capital Region.
The company will lease the space to a local treatment firm.
The facility is being built here in part due to the changing needs of the local population.
It is also a push by the firm running the facility, New York Oncology Hematology, to upgrade its facilities and restrategize for a changing healthcare landscape.
Primarily though, it is an answer to the population surge, which has required health care providers to become more capable in the growing rural parts of the county.
The center is expected to become a leading component in the ongoing fight against cancer, with clinical trials and drug research slated to get started soon after opening.
The banner printing-festooned groundbreaking ceremony launched the construction site on Friday, June 6th.
