Carson City to fill bowls for the hungry

Funds and awareness of food insecurity will be raised in Carson City’s annual Empty Bowls Project taking place next month.

Print shops often produce promotional materials for organizers of charity events of this nature.

The event is a collaboration of Ogres-Holm Pottery and Friends in Service Helping (FISH) and it raises money for FISH programs. The non-profit organization is dedicated to providing essentials such as housing, healthcare, food, and clothing to unhoused and hungry members of the community, and has offered these services since 1979.

Empty bowls funds are earmarked for the FISH food-related initiatives, such as its food pantry, which can provide members with as many as 10 days of groceries each month. In 2021, the organization provided people in need with more than 234,000 food bank meals and close to $13,000 sit-down meals.

For its part, Ogres-Holm Pottery offers multiple bowl-making classes throughout the year with the aim of having potters create 1,000 bowls. The bowls are then offered for sale at the primary event where soup is served. The fundraiser was inspired by a national event that originated in 1990.

The Empty Bowls Project meal will be held at the Carson Mall on Friday, December 6 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Tickets are $25 and available at Ogres-Holm Pottery studio at 1215 South Carson Street.
