Study ranks New Mexico as second-kindest state

The nonprofit kinder.org recently conducted a study to rank the states by the degree of kindness they exhibit, and The Land of Enchantment came in second place.

According to Kinder’s research director Dr. Oliver Scott Curry the study is conducted by questionnaires with queries such as “would you lend money to a friend in a financial crisis?” or, “would you transfer your vacation time to a colleague?”

Albuquerque residents will be relieved to know that their state was outranked in the kindness category only by the residents of Kentucky. Chambers of Commerce ask printing services to include the results of studies such as this one in their promotional materials to make their city or state look more attractive to businesses.

Speaking of the study’s results, Dr. Curry stated:

"Overall, we were surprised by how kind America was. Most other studies have shown that people in general, including Americans, score about 50 percent in questionnaires like these. But we found all states scoring in the seventies."

Per the study’s results, it appears that when over 5,000 Americans were posed the question of donating their vacation time, 53% said they would. When it comes to lending a friend money, 72% said they would, and 86% said they would be willing to donate a portion of their liver to a family member.
