Animated screens classic in Albuquerque

Albuquerque’s International District Library will screen The Nightmare Before Christmas, appropriately scheduled for after Halloween but before Christmas.

The PG-rated stop-motion animated film directed by Henry Selick centers on Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town. The character, who resembles a skeleton, is voiced by Chris Sarandon during the speaking segments and by Danny Elfman during the singing segments. Elfman also helmed the musical score for the film.

Based on a children’s book by producer Tim Burton, The Nightmare Before Christmas chronicles Jack Skellington’s journey from his hometown to one of strange traditions and enchanting scenery, Christmas Town.

When his enthusiasm for Halloween Town wanes, Jack’s misguided longing for something new pushes him toward putting his spooky season flair on the gift-giving mission of Santa Claus.

Ken Page’s Oogie Boogie, a monstrous creature with a burlap sack body full of insects and a golden singing voice, becomes the surprise antagonist of the film as he threatens Jack’s friends, even Saint Nick himself. But can the Pumpkin King set aside his Christmas obsession to save them?

Movie screenings like this may choose to use banner printing for creating promotional signs and marquees.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is screening on December 14 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the International District Library at 7601 Central Ave. NE in Albuquerque.
