The money will be used to fund conservation efforts at the Historic Archive. This will mean creating digital versions of the records held in the archives of the History and Arts program at the Center. The NHCC’s archive consists of a large collection of documents, photographs, and other items. The grant money will make it possible for the Center to make sure that these historic documents and items can be seen by future generations. Printing services can be used to make Copies of important documents like this.
In a statement, Noël Merriam, the NHCC’s interim director, explained that:
“The funds were secured by Sen. Martin Heinrich. He’s the one who reached out to us to let us know that there were some funds available.”
Merriam has already had meetings with the Literacy Arts Director and people from the National Archive. They are now working on creating a budget, writing up a work plan, and putting together a timeline. The preparation work should be completed by June.
The grant money is expected to become available in September. The directors are planning to hire a project manager, a photographer, and an assistant project manager to oversee the conservation effort. The public should be able to see the results of this project towards the end of next year.
