New program to sell Albuquerque products to the world

The New Mexico Department of Tourism has come up with a plan that it hopes will help businesses in Albuquerque and throughout the state grow and prosper.

The New Mexico True Certified Program will give artisans and producers of
food and other goods a way to show that they have been produced in the state and meet certain standards. They must be made in New Mexico, be grown in the state or be born and raised in it. Examples of products that could earn this designation are wines, soaps, fruit or vegetables and meat or poultry products or wool.

Those who received approval to be a part of the program can use the brand designation on their packaging, on menus or on promotional items. The products selected will be featured in the materials that the Tourism Department uses to market the state to visitors.

The new logo can be used in a variety of ways without necessarily having to change the original packaging. For example, a printing company can produce stickers that can be added to the materials that are currently in use. According to the state’s Tourism Secretary Rebecca Latham, this can help to keep the costs low for those companies that wish to become a part of the system.
