Military facility releases economic impact report

The influence of the Kirtland Air Force Base Albuquerque metropolitan region and beyond is expanding.

Lt. Col. Matthew Daniels, commander of the 377th Air Base Wing Comptroller Squadron, delivered the Kirtland Air Force Base economic impact assessment to local authorities at the annual breakfast of the Kirtland Partnership Committee.

The report shows that KAFB had a $4.88 billion local economic effect for the fiscal year 2022. This number also accounts for 7 percent of local employment and over 10 percent of the regional economy. According to Daniels, the facility also has over twenty-five significant mission partners as well as 108 overall mission partners, which contributes to the amount of employment at KAFB and the local economy. Daniels went on to say:

“That’s a huge, huge number. Our missions include research and development, testing and evaluation, special operations and combat search and rescue, and support to the Air Force’s nuclear enterprise.”

The report, released every other year, follows a similar study produced in 2021, which revealed that KAFB had an overall economic effect of around $4.6 billion in 2020. The most current study for FY2022 examines indirect output, local spending, and yearly payroll, which totaled $2.4 billion. Important documents tend to feature Letterheads on them.

Kirtland Air Force Base is the headquarters of Sandia National Laboratories and the Air Force Research Laboratory operates from here as well. It also accommodates thousands of military people and employees.
