A 12,000-square-foot warehouse in Albuquerque is being converted into the New Mexico Artisan Market at the Bazaar in the Sawmill District.
The new market will be located across the street from the Heritage-owned Sawmill Market, which opened in 2020 and specialises in food. This new market will have up to 70 artisans, from small-batch jam makers to sculptors and painters.
The already present Sawhill Market contains within it a small artisan market that will, once the larger facility is opened in July at 1904 Bellamah NW, be absorbed into the new facility. The objective is to offer locals and guests another area attraction, while providing New Mexico artists with a physical location to display and sell their goods. Business Cards are a vital part of any small business operating in a market environment like this.
The market is seeking artists in a wide range of media and is looking for creatives specifically from New Mexico. Vendors, hosted on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, will be set up outdoors as well as indoors in white tents reminiscent of Santa Fe art markets. A jury will select the artists on a rotating basis.
The new market will connect via a doorway to the Spur Line Supply Co., and the company’s general manager Rebecca Tuccillo, speaking to ABQJournal.com, expressed high hopes that having the Artisan Market next door will result in more traffic at her store.
The grand opening for the New Mexico Artisan Market at the Bazaar will be July 9.
