Albuquerque runs for its zoo

Albuquerque celebrates the 34th Annual Run for the Zoo and Walk with us Too in a couple of weeks. This event is a yearly fundraiser for the ABQ BioPark Zoo, Aquarium, and Tingley Beach, and Botanic Garden.

The event will have different levels of participation, including a half-marathon and a one mile fun run. There will also be a 5K split into two sections: a timed run and a walk. The 10K and half-marathon will only be offered as timed runs.

The half-marathon in particular will have a set time limit of three and a half hours, after which any remaining participants will have to abide by traffic laws again as normal traffic resumes. The 5K walk and the one-mile fun run or walk will not be timed, or competitive.

Run for the Zoo was started in 1985, when it attracted about 800 participants. In years since, the event has grown so popular that it is capped at 12,000 participants. Proceeds from the event benefit the different aspects of the ABQ BioPark, particularly the zoo. Funds help to purchase enrichment items for the animals, as well as food and care.

Events like this often benefit from flyer printing. Flyers can be printed and left in offices, handed out to BioPark visitors, or even mailed out to previous participants. The zoo run will be held this year on Sunday, May 5. Beginning times will vary by event.
