What's Happening in Gastonia, NC…

Workshop on diabetes to come to Gastonia

The Living Healthy with Diabetes workshop will be offered by the North Carolina Extension in Gastonia this month and next.

This is a free self-management program from Stanford University, designed for those who are pre-diabetic, living with diabetes, or are at a risk for diabetes. Those who attend the program will learn how to present low levels of blood sugar; east well; manage pain, depression, and fatigue; effectively use their medications; prevent and delay complications of diabetes; and set goals and solve problems.

Program facilitator with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Linda Minges, said that this program has had a significant impact on the lives many people. She added that participants have shared how helpful the group discussions have been as well as having the ability to solve problems that affect everyone together.

There are six weekly sessions in the program with all session taking place at the Lucile Tatum Center on Osceola Street in Gastonia. Among the items which participants will receive are a relaxation CD, a tote bag, and a copy of “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions” workbook. Refreshments will be served at every session.

Such workshops also look to local print shops to create booklets and other informative printed materials to add value to the sessions.

This workshop will be on Thursdays from November 7 through December 19 from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
