Gastonia appoints new fire chief

The next Fire Chief of Gastonia will be Deputy Chief Brad Best.

Announcements of such new appointments often call for business card printing services.

Best has over 30 years of experience in the fire service. He began his career with the City of Hickory Fire Department as a firefighter and with South Gastonia Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter. His previous roles include firefighter, Captain, Battalion Chief, and Assistant Chief within the Gastonia Fire Department. He is also a member of the Agriculture Center Fire Department.

Chief Best expressed his honor to have been selected as the Fire Chief for the community which helped him to become the person he is today. He added that he grew up in Gastonia and so the role is very personal to him. He said that he is looking forward to continuing the mission of the fire department and working with its dedicated team and the strong community.

Chief Best earned a Bachelor of Science in Fire Safety Engineering Technology from University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership/Fire from Waldorf University. He also holds degrees in Fire Protection Technology and Public Safety Administration from Gaston College. He became an Eagle Scout while attending Hunter Huss High School.

He will start his new position on Friday 1st May when Chief Phil Welch retires.
