The Belmont General Store, formerly the Stowe Mercantile Co., in Belmont will become a barber shop and outdoor clothing store this fall. Those from nearby Gastonia will no doubt want to see what this new store has to offer.
The store had been owned by the family of Matthew Matinata, who was looking for a new tenant after 10 years of ownership. Most tenants found the space either too small or too big, or that it required too much of a financial commitment to renovate completely.
Realtors and city leaders, as well as Catawba River Outfitters and Jamie Price, a barber from Gaston County, worked together to create a new concept for the space.
Most of the downstairs space will be occupied by Catawba River Outfitters. As the store focuses on outdoor lifestyle accessories and clothing for women and men, Matinata said the store will work with the trail system, the U.S. National Whitewater Center, and the surrounding waters in the area to help promote their goods. The use of Promotional Products to highlight such features can also help with advertising such products.
The back of the downstairs will be operated by Price and his barber shop. It is expected that Price will be more of a traditional old-school, hometown barber, offering his services to families and people of all ages.
