Gastonia seeks input for downtown mural

Designers of a new art mural that will be coming to downtown Gastonia are seeking input from the community about what should it should display to best represent the entire community of Gaston County.

The goal of the mural is that it will incorporate elements from all over the county and might include historical moments, ideas, symbols, and landmarks. There is a survey online which residents can use to submit their ideas for the mural. Banner printing can be used to notify residents of desired input, encouraging them to fill out such surveys and change their communities.

The Greater Gaston Development Corp. is leading this initiative, which is part of the Go Month celebration being celebrated throughout the county throughout the month of October. Go Month will include parades, discussions, tours, and luncheons. There will be a different point of focus each week through October, with such areas as education and workforce development, culture and recreation, restaurant and retail, and business and economic development all represented.

The ideas from the public will be gathered by a few local artists who will then design the mural, the exact location of which is yet to be determined.

An event will be held on Sunday October 27 where the community will come together to paint the mural and conclude the month’s activities.
