Gastonia residents have chance to learn about county government

The Spring County Government Academy of Alamance County will be starting next month. Residents of Gastonia will want to attend this workshop to learn more about their county’s government.

Its goal is to raise awareness about the responsibilities of county government and the role that it plays in the community. There will be many opportunities to see the government in action behind-the-scenes as part of the Academy so that participants will come away with a better understanding or the services and programs which the county government offers for its residents.

Among the topics to be covered are information technology, the sheriff’s office, the register of deeds, and solid waste management. Print shops often get involved with such workshops to provide materials which participants can take away with them after each meeting.

The slots for the Academy are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis and class size is limited. Those who choose to attend the Academy are asked to come to every session.

The Academy will begin on Tuesday March 10 and run for 10 consecutive weeks. Sessions will be held from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. except for the ones on the airport and the landfill which will take place from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. There will be graduation and a meet and greet with the county commissioners on Monday June 15.
