A Distinguished Budget Presentation Award has been presented by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United State and Canada to the Finance Department of the city of Gastonia.
This award was given to the city for its annual budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2022, making this the 30th consecutive year in which this award has been given to the city. A Recognition of “Special Long Range Financial Plans” was also given to the city along with this award. Announcements of such awards and distinctions are often made known throughout a community with poster printing.
The annual comprehensive financial report for the last fiscal year, which ended on June 30, 2021 was also recognized with the Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting. An impartial panel of judges determined that the report met the highest standards of the program and demonstrated the ability of the city to fully disclose and communicate its financial standings, and to motivate residents to read the report. A budget report needs to serve as an operations guideline, a policy document, and a device for communications.
The Director of Financial Services for Gastonia, Crystal Certain, expressed her pride in receiving this recognition from the GFOA. Certain added that the community needs to be knowledgeable in the city’s budgets and financial reporting and that sound management of its fiscal policies is demonstrated in this reporting.
