Gastonia non-profit to host wishes for holiday items

The annual Christmas Wishes program is currently underway in Gastonia and is being held by the Gaston County United Way.

The goal of the program is to match those in need in the community with those who can help them. Rita Davis, one of the people who heads the program, said that it was created for those who may be having difficulties with buying gifts for their children, or elderly people who may not expect a merry Christmas. Poster printing is often used by such charitable organizations to inform residents and promote their benefits throughout the community.

Davis asked that those who are applying for items or services do not request the likes of mobile phones, bicycles, or electronics, as these are more expensive and it is not guaranteed that such requests can be filled. Those who apply for this program will receive a letter in the mail letting them know whether their application was declined or accepted. Those who are accepted will receive a postcard with a date when they can pick up their item, and a wish number.

Applications for the program will be accepted through next Tuesday, November 17 at 5:00 pm. Pick-up of items will take place on Monday, December 14 and Tuesday, December 15, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on both days.
