What's Happening in Gastonia, NC…

Gastonia has two new leaders in public works

Two new department directors in Gastonia have been hired to lead the Public Services and Public Utilities Departments, which have been newly reorganized.

Jim Amari will be the new director of Public Utilities while Dusty Wentz will become the director of Public Services once Dale Denton, the current Public Works Director, retires on Friday August 1. Such new positions often call for the need for business card printing services.

The two departments were reorganized by the city to better align services which were similar. This resulted in duties being shifted in both departments. Public Works, which is now called Public Services, manages the maintenance of buildings, stormwater, traffic and street services, and solid waste. Public Utilities is now in charge of stormwater and Public Services is in charge of electricity. Michael Peoples, city manager, said this new structure allows each department to focus more strategically on its core functions and enables the city to better deliver high-quality services to residents.

Amari has over 15 years of hands-on experience in the municipal water and wastewater industry in North Carolina. He holds degrees in public administration and organizational leadership, both completed while he was working in the utility field. Wentz has over 20 years of experience in the management and engineering of public infrastructure and 14 years in various leadership roles within public utilities and public works.

Both Amari and Wentz have started their new roles in the city.
