The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) will be expanding to Gastonia.
CEO of The Velocity Companies, Inc., Brandon Bellamy, who also leads the ownership of the league, said that Gastonia will be the second location of the Atlantic League in North Carolina. The High Point Rockers joined the League last year.
Announcements of such new teams can be made known to the public through banner printing, and are likely to lead to newly printed merchandise.
Rick White, president of the ALPB, expressed his delight in being able to bring Atlantic League baseball to Gastonia. He said that the team has shown great resolve and ingenuity at this time and, under the leadership of Bellamy, will be able to provide high-quality baseball and entertainment for many years in the future.
The Velocity Companies and Bellamy, working with the city of Gastonia, will be developing mixed-use projects to include retail, residential, office, and hotel space tied to the ballpark in the city, which will have an investment potential of $100 million. Bellamy commented that this presented an opportunity to not only own a team, but to also connect with the city. He added that Gastonia has a strong history of being entrepreneurial and he expressed his excitement about being part of its growth, hoping it will be a long-lasting affair.
