One of the country’s largest logistics companies, Total Quality Logistics (TQL), is opening a second North Carolina branch, with this one being in Durham.
TQL’s decision to open a second office in North Carolina follows on the heels of a $2.1 billion year in 2014. According to the Cincinnati-based company’s executive vice president, Kerry Byrne, the choice of Durham for TQL’s second foray into North Carolina was a simple one – the area is thriving and offers an extensive and accomplished employee pool.
Among the attributes presented by Durham are its proximity to the Research Triangle Park and the cutting edge technological research conducted there. Additionally, there is the planned installation of high-speed fiber optics known as Google Fiber.
As The Triangle Business Journal reported, Mark Vitner, an executive with Wells Fargo Securities, told the North Carolina Economic Forecast Forum he anticipates the state adding 110,00 jobs in the next two years. So confident is TQL in the growth potential for its Durham office that it plans to invest $750,000 here in the next three years.
Third party logistics is growing exponentially as shippers are increasingly choosing to outsource large shares of their supply chains. TQL maintains offices in 16 states, and the company's 28 offices combined increased its revenue by 31.3%.
