Art course helps Durham residents grow their skills

An in-depth art course will stop in Durham, providing art enthusiasts and hobbyists with an opportunity to learn new skills.

The Exploring Abstract Minimalism class will start in a few weeks, and area artists can attend to learn new skills from an experienced instructor. Michelle Wilkie, a textile artist and designer of modern quilts, will lead the course. Wilkie’s skills and experience allow her to create traditional quilts with a modern twist.

During the workshop, registered guests will learn abstract design for quilting. Guests will use one or two images of their choosing as inspiration for the pieces they will make during the course. Each participant will walk away with up to two small canvases to take home and enjoy or gift to friends and family. Brochure printing is invaluable for sharing steps, tips, and advice with attendees at such events.

Wilkie will show guests how to play with critical elements to create a unique design. Other instructions will focus on the placement of color to make the design stand out. Students must bring scissors, a photo or two, a glue stick, and a scrap of paper to participate.

The event will be held at Golden Belt Artists on Saturday, August 3, beginning at 10:00 AM and ending at 1:00 PM. Tickets cost $55 per participant, and interested parties can make reservations online.
