Rochester Public Transit will start by opening several of the routes to neighborhoods. This is the first step in the RPT’s plan to restore full services on all routes. A few of the neighborhood routes will remain closed for now.
A survey was conducted in June to see how the public feels about reopening routes. 570 people participated and the majority were in favor of the new safety measures that will be implemented. The survey also showed that people wanted the neighborhood routes to return. Graphic design is a good way of showing which routes are operational.
La Xiong, the Physical Development Manager, had this to say:
“Recent policy changes, like the resumption of enforcement in residential parking zones, and the upcoming change of seasons make this the right time to provide additional service. We hope adding these routes will fill an unmet need.”
The RPT had plans to renumber its routes and cover more areas this summer although that plan has been put on hold.
Weekend direct routes are expected to continue in the same manner they have been operating for the past four months. The 4D to Cub Foods route as well as the 15D to Target south route will not be resumed. Park-and-rides at those locations will not be available either.
