The Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minnesota will be hosting An Evening with filmmaker Ken Burns next week.
Burns is known for making documentaries on subjects in history, sports, and medicine, such as The Civil War and Prohibition. His most recent one is ‘The Mayo Clinic: Faith-Hope-Science’, which is the one that will be presented at the Civic Center. Events like this often involve the exchange of Corporate Gifts.
Before doing documentaries, Burns previously worked as a cinematographer for the BBC among many others. He was making short films and documentaries of his own by the late 1970s. It was around that time that he agreed to make an adaptation of David McCullough’s book, The Great Bridge, which tells the story of the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge. The documentary made Burns’ career, as it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary. It also ran on PBS for a time in the U.S.
The event will be start with a Block Party at the Civic Center Plaza at 4:30 pm on September 10. The interactive film premiere and discussion with Burns, co-directors Christopher Loren Ewers and Ewen Ewers, and Mayo Clinic CEO, Dr. John Noseworthy will follow at 7:00 pm. The event is free to attend, but the premiere and discussion part does require a ticket, which can be obtained in person through the Mayo Civic Center Box Office from Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
