An event in the second week of June is putting the spotlight on members of a Rochester-based group, as well as other local people.
AbilityFest is an experience from Ability Building Community (ABC). Originally known as Ability Building Center, the organization was started in 1956 to fulfill a need for a number of area residents. The purpose is providing those with disabilities a space filled with support and positivity, as well as access to job opportunities. At first, work was offered purely through the center itself. In recent years, the options expanded to local businesses throughout the community.
ABC has grown from just a trio of employees working from the basement of a nursing home to an organization with multiple programs and physical locations.
This party is serving as both a thank you to staff and a chance for the local population to learn about ABC. During the event, tours of the Rochester facility will be offered to attendees. Music, food, dancing, and activities will also be available to enjoy.
Attending is free for everyone. Flyer printing is a promotion technique that those looking to advertise an event will often choose.
The date of the special celebration is Friday, June 13, running from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm. As the day gets closer, event organizers will add more information to the AbilityFest Facebook page.
