Rochester a place for relaxation, says study

A recent study polling all of the major cities in the United States has found that Rochester is one of the most relaxed places to live.

The study was conducted by retailmenot.com. The researchers looked at different categories corresponding to the quality of life and used the information to compile a list of the most stressful cities. The researchers asked about physical and mental health, poverty rates, and housing costs, among other factors.

Rochester was given a stress-score of just 11 out of 100, which made it the fifth least-stressed out small city in the United States.

The cities were separated according to their sizes. Small cities were classified as having populations between 100,000 and 149,000 and Patterson, New Jersey ranked most stressful in this category with a score of 91. Newark, again in New Jersey, took the unenviable top spot for medium-sized cities with a score of 93, while Memphis, Tennessee was ranked the most stressed-out large city with a score of 89.

Rochester ranked below the nation’s average in almost every single category on the survey, including scores for people who have adequate insurance and those who get enough sleep every night. Those tasked with boosting tourism and attracting new residents to the area may want to highlight Rochester’s relaxation credentials through brochure printing.

Rochester is still ranked as one of the coldest places to live in the country, with this month’s temperatures getting close to record lows, but residents can warm their spirits with the knowledge that their lifestyles are generally more peaceful than they might be elsewhere.
