Murals are able to turn the drab space on the sides of buildings into colorful displays. Sculptures have a similar effect on street corners and public art is able to uplift the spirits of the people walking through the city. Clever designs add color to the otherwise boring lengths of urban landscape
The RDA will be installing Rochester’s newest mural in a 3rd street alley that is being repurposed. Karli McElroy, the project’s manager, said that the goal of the mural is:
“To make the space feel welcoming feel inviting and feel a lot safer and cleaner for people.”
Two artists are tasked with bringing the mural to life. They tend to use graphic designs for the mock-up and then spray paint over printed templates.
The organization will make sure that the mural’s installation is legal. Property owners will be compensated through a grant that is issued to promote the community’s local art. The RDA would like to invite people to take a walk through downtown Rochester and take a second to appreciate all the new artwork that is popping up.
