New law protects first responders

Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz appreciates the hard work first responders are putting in and has made it easier for them to serve by signing a bill that will protect them.

First responders in Minnesota are an important part of the state's ability to keep people safe from the virus that has made waves across the world. The new law makes it possible for frontline workers and emergency medical teams to file for and receive worker’s compensation benefits should they catch the coronavirus. Poster printing could be used to educate people on how to keep from catching the virus.

Mandee Marx serves as a firefighter with the Rochester Fire Department. Speaking to KIMT.com, she went on record to say that the job is a dangerous one and they are aware that they must do their jobs regardless. Marx is taking comfort in the fact that the governor and other legislatures are taking steps to make sure that essential workers such as firefighters are taken care of. She also said:

“So we are required with our job that we cannot shelter in. So I think it’s a great way for the state to support the police, fire and EMS boys by doing that.”

At present, the Rochester Fire Department plans to keep its crew healthy by implementing social distancing rules while in the office.
