Minnesota begins stages of reopening

Malls, retail stores and several other types of businesses have been given the go-ahead to reopen in Minnesota, although gyms, salons, bars and restaurants are expected to stay closed at least until June 1.

Tyrol Ski & Sports in Rochester is one of the stores already reopened. The owner, Robb Welch, said:

“It wasn’t a total surprise to me but it’s going to be good for us, the business, and our customers. At the same time, there’s a little bit of anxiety in terms of my staff’s safety, our safety, and our customers’ safety.”

Byron and Stewartville Anytime Fitness is one business that will not be able to open until June. The owner, Jameson Hanson, is eager to get his business back up and running, and feels that he has an obligation to the members of his gym to get the doors open again so that people can continue working towards their health and fitness goals. Poster printing is often used when a business is reopening.

The Minnesota Department of Health has insisted that despite being open, the businesses will have to operate at no more than 50% capacity. The president of Rochester’s Chamber of Commerce, Kathleen Harrington, was happy to hear that the stay-at-home order was lifted and recognizes the responsibility that will be on the proprietors’ shoulders. The Chamber is also offering online courses to prepare business owners for reopening.
