A piece of property located on the riverfront in downtown Rochester is slated for renovation and the city of Rochester is putting out a call for creative developers who have ideas for the property to bid for the job.
City officials want the Riverfront Reimage project to be a unique development. The parcel of land is situated in the busy part of downtown Rochester between 2nd and 4th Street southeast near Broadway Avenue. This means that it is close to the river and the Mayo Clinic, and it is served by both the skywalk and bike trails. Anybody who has an innovative idea for how the property can be developed to better serve the community is encouraged to submit a proposal.
Jenna Bowman, who is Rochester’s Manager for Communications and Engagement, said:
“Ultimately the hope is that this project will really be a great anchor for this area, that it will serve a lot of different purposes. So ultimately its hopefully finding a proposal that would achieve the greatest good with a variety of criteria.”
The parcel of land is currently occupied by a parking lot, so any plan that the city officials decide on will have to include some kind of an allowance for parking space that is open to the public. Brochure printing can be used to show what the project will look like when finished.
Submissions must be sent in to the county clerk by January 30.
