Minneapolis celebrates winter with festival and parades

The 133rd Saint Paul Winter Carnival will be coming in a few weeks. The 11-day community festival will have a plethora of city-wide events.

Kellogg Mall Park at 62 W Kellogg Blvd, St. Paul will be the center of the action and will include an ice sculpture garden, three parades, ice bars, Kids’ Day on January 26th, Minnesota Made Market on the 27th, Frozen Family Fun Night on the 29th, and Family Day on February 2nd.

The official kick off will be the Moon Glow Pedestrian Parade on January 24th starting at 6:00 pm. With hot air balloons overhead, ambassadors, dignitaries, festival organizers, leaders from the local business community and the general public, many carrying luminaries, will be strolling through downtown Saint Paul.

The King Boreas Grand Day Parade on January 26th will be a procession led by King Boreas, the new monarch of the festival, along with his family and friends. The parade will have floats, and marching bands. It starts at Smith High Bridge and ends at Kellogg Park.

Vulcan Rex will get his own Vulcan Victory Torchlight Parade on February 2nd from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm. Community groups, governmental agencies and businesses are invited to participate. The parade will start on 5th Street and end at Minnesota Street.

Large city events such as Winter Carnival usually get top billing in the city’s visitor guide brochure printing.
