Locals still have a couple of weeks to enjoy the Grand Rapids Lantern Festival, a celebration of the richness of Asian culture and how the local wildlife in Asian intersects it.
The festival is being hosted by John Ball Zoo, which prides itself on being actively involved in conservation efforts relating to the natural environment and wildlife. It was the first zoo in Michigan to become an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The Lantern Festival is intended to highlight the cultural relevance of Asian cultures in relation to the wildlife that calls Asia home. The event will consist of a one-mile light tour through the zoo and showcases handcrafted Asian lanterns. The zoo will is first and perhaps only place that these works of art will be displayed. There will also be various interactive exhibits and Asian delicacies to enjoy.

The lantern festival is draws to a close on Sunday, June 15. The John Ball Zoo can be found at 1300 West Fulton Street. Tuesday through Thursday admission is $22 for non-members and $19 for members. Friday and Saturday admission is $30 for non-members and $23 for members. Sunday admission is $26 for non-members and $23 for members.
