Jessup area nonprofit to host permaculture class

The Howard County Conservancy is hosting an introductory permaculture workshop this spring.

The workshop will teach participants the basic philosophy of permaculture, which involves observing nature and working cooperatively with the land. The instructor, Roxana Segovia Beltran, is a permaculture educator and designer with more than 17 years of professional gardening experience. The class will include group discussions and reflection sessions. The instructor hopes to help participants strengthen their community ties, plant resilient gardens and expand their awareness of the local ecosystem.

The workshop is free to attend, but participants should register on the Conservancy’s website. It is open to anyone in the area, including residents of Jessup and other towns in Howard County. Participants do not need gardening experience. They should bring a notebook for any written reflections or design sketches they would like to do during the session. Instructors often use printing services to provide handouts for this type of class.

The Conservancy is a nonprofit that works to teach children and adults about nature while protecting and preserving land. It is located on a 232-acre farmstead with five miles of trails and an education center. The group is also responsible for more than 2000 acres of conservation land in Howard County.

Introduction to Permaculture: Designing With Regeneration will take place on Saturday, March 21, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, at Howard County Conservancy’s Mount Pleasant location.
