Glen Burnie artists head for Little Italy

Artists here in Glen Burnie will be heading out to the Madonnari Arts Festival coming early in September.

Over 50 visual artists will be using pastel chalk and creating original works on the streets of Baltimore from Stiles to South High. This year’s theme will be ‘Respect’.

Anthony Cappetto will be creating 3-D art using 4-D technology. Professional artists will be judging the 2-D and 3-D street paintings and awarding prizes in contemporary and traditional categories. Winners will be taking pictures of their works for later poster printing.

Muralist Michael Kirby and Baltimore native Maestro Madonnaro will be presenting a lecture on the history and techniques of Madonnari street painting.

Dance, theater, concerts and performances, wine, music from strolling Opera singers, and Italian food will also be showcased during the four-day festival. A troupe of young Baltimore City musicians will play contemporary Italian music on bowlback mandolins. That will be followed by the Baltimore Mandolin Quartet. Members of the Annapolis Shakespeare Company will perform scenes outdoors and in selected restaurants.

The PNC Children’s Chalk Center will have creative activities for young artists. Stiles Street will be turned into a bocce area where guests can learn the game. Baltimore’s Museum of Art Outpost’s mobile museum will also be onsite.

Madonnari Arts Festival will take place September 7 through 10 in the Little Italy neighborhood of Baltimore. Hours will be 11:00 am to 10:00 pm daily.
