Transform walkways with floor graphics

In 1812, district attorney Elias Glenn bought a piece of land in the area and built a country estate. He called it “Glennsburne,” and his home became the foundation of modern Glen Burnie. A century and a half later, the town was ushered into a new age of commerce when Harundale Mall opened in 1958. At the time, it was constructed at the confluence of Ritchie Highway and Aquahart Road, and touted as the first all enclosed air-conditioned mall east of the Mississippi River. The trend didn’t stop with Harundale Mall. In 1963, Glen Burnie Mall opened as well. The two malls and their respective retail centers have since become a mainstay of the suburb of Glen Burnie, Maryland.

Floor graphics breathe new life into the mundane surfaces of retail centers or office spaces, and reinvent them as tools of storytelling. They can turn a regular walkway into a visual narrative in creative and engaging ways. They can take the form of timelines, archival photos, or maps that help people experience a location’s history. In more commercial spaces, such as malls and retail centers, floor graphics can provide aesthetic value, help orient people, and complement brand identity in powerful ways.
