Port Discovery Children’s Museum, 35 Marketplace, Baltimore, will present its annual American Indian Heritage Weekend over two days at the end of November and beginning of December.
Friday, November 29, the event will open at 11:00 am with a Call for Procession with dance and songs presented by members of local tribes. At 11:30 am an opening ceremony will include an honor song for the event.
From 11:00 am until 3:00 pm, members of the Baltimore American Indiana Center will be in the Culture Corner discussing and displaying Indian traditions and culture. An Accohannock Indian Tribe display will feature embroidery, wood burning, and photography of tribe members. Tribal Chairman Michael will be on hand to share cultural artifacts, regalia, and oral traditions. Glen Burnie guests are invited to create their own corn husk dolls during all three days.
On Saturday, along with the Baltimore American Indian Center presentation, the Piscataway Conoy tribe will have a display featuring regalia, relics and indigenous housing. Members of the Piscataway Conoy tribe will be discussing their oral tradition and history. At 2:00 pm Conoy Creations will present Kentkatam: Let’s Dance. Guest will take part in generational social dances.
On Sunday, starting at 10:00 am, the event will have the Culture corner and social dancing.
