Baltimore Symphony Musicians have gotten together to present the Big, Baltimore Brass Concert of the Century, coming in a few days.
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Trumpet Chair, Andy Ballo, got on the phone with his friends in major league orchestras in the Baltimore area and asked if they were interested in becoming part of a once-in-a-century brass concert that would benefit the BSO Basilica. Members from orchestras such as Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Simper Fi Brass, and Washington National agreed to work with Ballo and the BSO’s percussion section to create this unique concert.
The conductor for the evening will be James Ross, and Martin O’Malley will be speaking for the cause. The program will include works from classical greats such as Wagner, Strauss, Grieg, Dukas, Bach, and Gabrieli. A Rachmaninov fanfare will mark the 80th birthday of Yuri Temirkanov, the BSO’s Music Director from 2000 to 2006.
Although the event will be free, donations will be collected for concert expenses and My Sister’s Place Women’s Center.
Glen Burnie brass musicians, and others who enjoy brass music may wish to do a little flyer printing and put Flyers up in their practice halls, on bulletin boards in their music organization buildings and school music departments.
The Big, Baltimore Brass Concert of the Century will be January 8 at the Baltimore Basilica, 409 Cathedral Street, Baltimore from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
