Trio of companies collaborate to create sustainable foods

Sodexo, which has its US headquarters in Gaithersburg, is teaming up with two other organizations to provide ecofriendly food globally.

Knorr Professional, a brand that manufacturers food and beverage, and World Wildlife Fund United Kingdom (WWF-UK), a leading organization in environmental conservation, is working with the global facilities management and food services firm to produce and serve Future 50 Foods worldwide. Sodexo will use recipes that incorporate the 50 foods identified by WWF-UK and Knorr to be flavorful, nutritious, available, and better for the environment than those based on animal products.

Earlier this year, WWF-UK and Knorr published a report on the Future 50 Foods with the help of nutritionists, scientists, and experts in agriculture, determining which nutritious foods could create a more viable food structure. Some of the foods are well-known, such as wild rice, kale, and lentils. Others are unfamiliar foods like pumpkin flowers, cactus, and fonio. These foods are healthy and have a lower carbon footprint.

Nutritionists and chefs from Knorr Professional and Sodexo created 40 recipes with the Future 50 Foods and plan to present them to over 5,000 kitchens around the world. Half of those kitchens will be in the United States and include some in corporations and healthcare settings. Companies that use kitchens often use Print shops or flyer printing to create Menus.

Five recipes will debut in the United States. These will encourage customers to add plant-based foods into their regular diets while bolstering the continuous food system biodiversity, and their ingredients are available in the average grocery store.
