Charitable race to return to Gaithersburg
The long-running Kentlands/Lakelands 5K will be holding its 32nd annual run in Gaithersburg this August, raising money for local charity.
The event challenges participants to run a five-kilometer route throughout downtown Gaithersburg. The USATF-certified race typically attracts more than 1300 runners and thousands more spectators. There will also be 200 and 500 meter fun runs for children. The top three male and female finishers will receive cash prizes, and there will also be recognition for participating family duos and the top finishers in each age group. In addition to the race, there will be a Merchant’s Expo area with local vendors at the finish line, as well as live musical entertainment and refreshments.
Funds raised through the race will go towards charitable programs within Montgomery County such as the Dolores C. Swoyer Scholarship Fund, The Dwelling Place homeless shelter, Mercy Health Clinic and the Maryland Senior Olympics. Older participants in the race can also qualify for the Senior Olympics. Races like this often use t-shirts and other promotional products to commemorate the occasion, and the Kentlands/Lakelands 5K will provide each runner with a Dri-Fit crew neck race shirt. Participating children will receive a t-shirt with a design that is the winner of a contest.
The 2025 Kentlands/Lakelands 5K will take place across Main Street and other parts of downtown Gaithersburg on the morning of August 30.
