Traditional parade to return to Gaithersburg

The City of Gaithersburg will be hosting its 24th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade this March, aiming to highlight Irish-American culture and celebrate the last weeks of winter.

The parade will include dozens of attractions, including Celtic dancers, bagpipe players, equestrian units, and masked characters. Local community organizations like school groups, service organizations, and the fire department will also be represented. The parade will be emceed by Carolyn Muller, the city’s Director of Parks Recreation and Culture.

Longtime civil servant and parade Lead Planner Dorothy Winder will be honored as the parade’s Grand Marshal. Participating groups are invited to hand out candy or gift items to attendees. Parades like this are a tradition in cities across North America which have had historic Irish-American communities, often using floats and banner printing to help acknowledge community organizations.

The Gaithersburg parade will conclude at the Rio Lakefront complex, which includes special attractions, restaurants and businesses such as Locally Crafted Workshops and The Lake House at Copper Canyon. In past years, this parade has acted as the start of the Rio’s spring season, with attractions such as the carousel opening up.

The 2026 Gaithersburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place along Rio Boulevard and Grand Corner Avenue on the morning of March 14. Three nearby garages will provide free parking during the festivities.
