Classic musical planned for Gaithersburg

The Damascus Theatre Company will be bringing an acclaimed musical to Gaithersburg this February with its production of Company.

The musical, with music by Stephen Sondheim and a book by George Furth, consists of a series of vignettes where bachelor Bobby interacts with his married friends, in the process commentating on relationships and culture. The play has been a hit since its debut on Broadway in 1970 and has frequently been revived.

The Gaithersburg production will feature a cast selected from local auditions, with Ethan Kennedy starring as Bobby and other cast members including Chrissy Barnett Miller and Leah Eden Chiaverini. Behind the curtain, the play will be directed by Rachelle A. Horn, with choreography by Karen Kushner Creel and Megan McNellage.

This production is presented in partnership with the City of Gaithersburg, and is part of the Damascus Theatre Company’s 2025-26 season. The group has been part of the Maryland theater scene since 1985 and will be concluding its season with a “junior” production of Once on this Island in May. Local theater groups like this often draw on support from the community, including volunteers and businesses like printing services for advertising.

The Damascus Theatre Production will run from February 6 to 22 at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn. There will be both evening and matinee shows, and discount tickets available for youth.
