Gaithersburg promotes culinary virtual learning

Gaithersburg officials have organized an online cooking class next month.

The city's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Culture will stream a culinary lesson with Sheila Crye, featuring leafy greens. She will teach viewers how to cook three different dishes: Tuscan kale with raisins and almonds, chicken piccata with caramelized lemons and capers, and boiled brown rice.

During the virtual lesson, students will learn to cook alongside the instructor in real time, or can simply watch and take notes if they prefer. They can ask the instructor questions as needed. At the end of the lesson, students will have three dishes immediately ready to enjoy.

Registration is $35 per electronic device, and the class is suited for adults and teens ages 16 and over.

Students who want to cook in real time during the class should have the ingredients and cooking tools needed at the start of the broadcast. One week before the class, staff will email registrants the recipe and a list of everything they will need. Students also must be on time, and may not be able to take part if they log in late.

Leafy Greens is the penultimate topic in a series of six classes titled Six Basic Cooking Methods. The series is available as a whole or individually. Those who register for the whole series can get a free copy of Jennifer Clair's Six Basic Cooking Techniques book. Cookery Books are known for their use of graphic design and high-quality images.

Leafy Greens will broadcast on November 19 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
