School board okays new 2022-2023 start and dismissal times

The Anne Arundel County Board of Education has given its approval to change school hours to a healthier starting and dismissal times for the upcoming school year starting next fall.

Although the Board wished to implement new school hours beginning in January 2022, it recently accepted the Prismatic Services, Inc., recommendation to wait until fall to make the change. All the exact start and dismissal times for the county’s 2022-2023 school year have not been decided. However, it has been determined that Crofton students as well as others throughout the county will be attending elementary school between 8 am and 9 am, middle school between 8:30 am and 9 am and high school at 8:30 am.

Confusing changes can be easier to understand by using a flyer printing service to lay it out in black and white.

Prismatic has determined that changing the scheduled school day will require little if any additional cost. On the other hand, approximately 32 additional buses will be needed to handle existing overcrowding issues.

Execution of the change to start and dismissal times will significantly affect not only students and teachers but also other school employees and families. It will require changes to athletics and school meal schedules, renegotiation of bus contracts and changes to county child-care operations.

An implementation team is already being assembled by Superintendent George Arlotto to oversee the operation and handle the various logistical aspects of the time switch.
