Pie eating contest highlights Crofton dog show
The 9th annual Dog Show and Dog Pie Eating Contest returns to Crofton next month.
The canine charity event is sponsored by the Crofton Civic Association and Higgins and Friends Pet Sitting, and will be held during the Higgins Pet Fair.
Owners can enter dogs of all breeds, size, and age into the show in categories such as best behaved, most tricks, the best costume, and owner and dog lookalike. The best groomed and behaved will be awarded best in show. The pie eating contest has a division for dogs both under and over 25 pounds, with the first dog to finish their pie declared the winner. However, dogs must start on command, as consuming the food in advance will result in disqualification. Not surprisingly, this contest is usually over very quickly.
The dog show is held in support of Rude Ranch Animal Rescue and funds will also benefit spay and neuter programs. In addition to the canine competitions, there will be demonstrations and information booths featuring groups such as animal rescue organizations and pet-related vendors. Businesses that set up booths at events such as this often benefit from poster printing to draw attention to their products and services.
The Higgins Pet Fair will be held Saturday, October 5 at the Crofton Country Club from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The dog show takes place at 1:30 pm. Dogs must be on leashes and have proof of rabies vaccination.
