WalletHub has ranked Crofton as the small city with the lowest rate of poverty in the country.
In the process of creating its “2022 Best Small Cities in American”, in which it compared 1,300 U.S. cities, WalletHub used 43 livability factors among which was the poverty rate of the cities. Of all the cities having a population between 25,000 and 100,000, Crofton had the lowest poverty rate.
According to the recently released study, this planned community city enjoys an enviable 1 percent poverty rate. For comparison, the city with the highest rate of poverty in the study was Isla Vista, California at 70.9 percent.
A city’s poverty level can greatly influence both relocation of families as well as businesses to a community. For this reason, the poverty rate, if it is good, is among the information chambers of commerce provided to brochure printing services to promote their city.
The community ranked in the 45th percentile overall among the 1,300 cities. The poverty rate was one of several factors that figured into a city’s economic health along with the city’s population growth, job growth, income growth, unemployment rate, foreclosure rate, debt per median earnings, share of people with a bankruptcy in the last 12 months and the median credit score.
In 2007, Crofton ranked No.72 on Money Magazine’s 100 best places to live list.
