Crofton area ready for fishing event

A sure sign that spring has arrived is the Boatyard Bar & Grill’s annual Rockfish Tournament, when Chesapeake anglers get their first chance of the season to land rockfish and maybe gain bragging rights for the biggest catch.

Flyer printing services are useful for marketing a local event like this.

This is a catch-and-release event so no Crofton resident will get to mount their tournament fish on the wall. However, for first prize, the winning fish’s outline gets suspended from a Boatyard beam.

Fish will not be brought in for measuring. Instead, digital photos of fish taken next to a “fish-stick,” officially known as a Boatyard measuring device, will be used. This measuring instrument is also called the “yardstick” but is in fact 48 inches long.

The fun starts on April 30, the evening prior to the tournament, when a skipper’s meeting takes place from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, at which time skipper Bags can be picked up and there will be time for socializing. May 1 is the day of the tournament and after the boats have returned, awards will be handed out and a large after party will take place at the Boatyard Bar & Grill.

Entry is limited to 100 boats and the registration deadline is April 27. The cost to enter is $250 per four-person boat. Additional anglers in a boat will cost $50 each.

Proceeds will benefit the Coastal Conservation Association Maryland, Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Annapolis PD’s Youth Fishing Camp.
